Sometimes it doesn’t always have to be about food. Change is here. It is in the leaves as they leave the safety of their tree branches and dance away in a blaze of crimson and yellow. Change is here in the howling of the wind that stirs us out of a sound sleep. Change is in the rain that suddenly springs up on a November day, but then leaves us with a glorious sunset at the end of the day.
With the setting of the clocks back this past weekend, the biggest change that most of us face is the lack of light for the next several months to come. The sun will rise later, and set earlier, meaning that many of us will travel to work in the dark, only to return home in same. It can mean less than happy moods for many of us, less outdoor activities, less travel, less walks.
But we always have it in us to turn things around. Perhaps it might be a good time to take up a new hobby. Join a book club. Buy some new candles and have a romantic evening at home with a loved one. Or curl up with a good movie, a warm blanket and a glass of wine for a relaxing evening alone. Or, bring back the 10 year old in us, grab a pair of rubber boots and go splashing in the puddles. Me, I will be taking a couple of photography courses at Langara in January. What does this winter hold for you?
